About the role:

As Manager, Single Cell Multi-omics Bead Development, you will lead a dedicated group to design, develop, implement, and scale our proprietary single cell capture beads for use in current and future single-cell multiomic assays and instruments! You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the group, provide technical oversight and mentoring, and also be responsible for developing a strategic roadmap for the single cell capture bead and technology. You will also build partnerships with our QC and BPE operations teams to anticipate and integrate manufacturing validation activities with development activities.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing a team of several (5-6) scientist and engineers, provide mentorship, support creative thinking, and provide scientific insights related to novel bead technologies and nucleic acid capture in the single cell multi-omics workflows

  • Designing and performing experiments using BD Rhapsody platform, and providing an interpretation of single-cell sequencing data

  • Implementing design control and optimization tools to develop and improve oligo-conjugated magnetic bead manufacturing process

  • Performing and developing new characterization tests to evaluate performance of the beads for single-cell assays

  • Evaluating downstream impacts of material or process changes by piloting experiments to analyze and interpret data and develop models for predictive performance

  • Collaborating and evaluating the third-party vendors, and participate in technical meeting with the vendors to provide the best bead material that meets the final product specifications

  • Designing and supporting transfer activities with bio process engineering team and manufacturing scale-up process development.

  • Identifying and coordinating sustaining activities as needed.

  • Supporting product development including verification and validation studies as needed.

  • Generating and maintaining documentation in support of the design transfer process, including supplier, manufacturing and quality control specifications.

  • Effectively coordinating with other functional areas associated with the R&D activities, including Product Development, Bioinformatics, Process Engineering, Platform Engineering, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Medical Affairs, Business Development, etc.

About you:

Ideally, have experience working with magnetic beads and oligo bioconjugation process. Proven product integration, process development and design transfer experience involving bead chemistry or engineering, preferably in a PCR or genomics. A good understanding of biostatistics and statistical packages as well as validated experience working in cross-functional development teams is crucial. Additionally, experience creating efficient and productive R&D work environments and effectively managing high demands with limited resources is highly desired.

Education and experience required:
  • Master's Degree or PhD degreed in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, bioengineering or a related discipling

  • 5+ years' experience in bead or surface chemistry or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in R&D or research laboratory environment managing team(s) of Scientists/Engineers

  • Experience working with magnetic beads and oligo bioconjugation process.

  • Experience in bead manufacturing.

  • Ph.D in biological science or engineering field preferred.
