Job Description
S taff Engineer, Product Ownership:
AStaffProduct Ownerwithin the Medication Management Solutions R&D organization,leadscross-functional development teamsthroughthediscovery,grooming, andrefinementactivities with internal and externalcustomerpartners toidentify,define, and validatethesolutionsthatshould be developed to solve our customer’s greatest needs.
As a leader of the program’s R&Dcore team, hasprimary accountabilityforthe prioritization andvaluationoftheprogram’s backlog,organization offeaturevalue streams and their deliverythroughprogram increment planning,andthe team’sfeaturegroomingreadinessin advance of sprint planningand developmentactivities.
By partnering with business stakeholders,drives accountabilityof theorganizationto clearly understand the customer’s needs and ensures the solutionas-a-wholeis valuabletothecustomerstakeholders.Throughconsistentengagementthroughout the product development lifecycle,leverages subject matter expertise in the medication management and dispensing domain, andbroad ability to create visual representations of solutions,to facilitatecontinuousopportunities forthe team to elicitfeedback.
Champions theincrementaldelivery ofvalueby the teamandsupports thegrooming, refinement,development, and testing activities of the teamthroughthecollectivedefinition of story acceptance criteria. By leveraging the naturalbyproductof an agile product development team,efficientlycreatesprogramdeliverables. Supportsproductvalidation with customer stakeholdersas well asthe formaltransfer of knowledge to internal stakeholders as necessary tosuccessfully deliver the product to market.
Job Responsibilities:
Accountable forprogram backlog prioritization andcommunicatesthe grooming and development readiness of backlog to cross functional team
Coach and mentor less experienced team members on presentation & communication skills
Guide and support more junior staff through discovery, analysis, grooming, and refinement approaches
Drive the collective estimation efforts of cross functional team members
Elicitfeedback frominternal and external stakeholders to confirm that the functional problems are sufficiently understood
Partner with business owners to clarify and prioritizethevalue of backlogitems
Analyze assigned functional workflows supported by our Medication Management & Dispensing& Infusionsoftware products
Documents functional needs of the end-user in the form of Features and User Stories & their associated acceptance criteria
May model functional workflows and createstory mapsfor assigned features
Independently leads the internal development team and broader R&D stakeholders throughbacklog grooming and refinement activities.
Partner with UX designers to create visual representations of the proposed solutions
Ensures that the software engineering, software quality engineering, and product management teams understand the functional solutions well enough to successfully estimate, develop, and test them
Ensures readiness of features ahead of implementation
Accountable for ensuring product featuresdefinitions are valuable and the featureshave met the team’s definition of done
Responsible for representation of PO group with external organizations or strategic partners
Provide input into key business decisions and takes a lead role in carrying out business plans
Desired Experience:
Experience working within a cross-functional product development team
Demonstrates working knowledge of agile product development practices, techniques, processes, and roles
Familiarity with the medication management product domain
Experience defining user-facing problem statements and confirming validity with internal and external customer stakeholders
Ability to translate the results of analysis into a functional design by designing solutions to address requirement(s)
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferably in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Management of Information Systems
5+years experiencein arequirementsengineering, systemsengineering, business analysis, or product ownership role
Desired Abilities:
Ability to influence cross-functional team to reach decisions
Successful in partnering with Software Engineering, Software Quality Engineering, Product Management, and/or Project Management teams
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Comfort with presentingto/leading discussionswithlarge cross-functional groups
Ability to garner and drive consensus across multiple functions
Comfortable with ambiguityand change
Preferred experience:
Familiarity with the hospital, pharmacy, nursing, or other clinically related domains
Exposure to PIS's (Pharmacy Information Systems),eMAR's, Patient ADT, Formulary, or similar Hospital Information Systems
Experience creating and reviewing formal design inputs such as User Needs, Requirements, and Specifications
Experience working within an agile software development environmentas a product owner or product owner-proxy
Prioraccountability for leading multiple product owners to supportthe needs ofone or moresprint teamsas a product owner
Experience with engaging vital internal stakeholder groups throughout product development
Experience ensuring a team’s program increment readiness
Experience working on systems comprised of hardware and software
