Job Description SummaryResponsible for all operational and security of the 250 Schilling Plant with specific responsibility for the Prepared Plate Media and Liquid Media Business in Hunt Valley MD.
Manage all phases of the 250 Schilling manufacturing operations in such a way as to provide the highest quality products at price levels that are competitive.
Reporting to the Senior Director Manufacturing the Manufacturing Director will coordinate all plant activities with special emphasis to ensure FDA compliances, ISO Certification, and ensure that we have policies and procedures in place to meet directives of local country specific. (i.e.: EEOC, GMP, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
It will be the Manufacturing Director’s responsibility to establish a high level of expectation for all employees in the performance of their duties as it relates to ethical conduct. The Manufacturing Director will also represent BD as appropriate in the surrounding area.
The Manufacturing Director is totally responsible for establishing all SQDC&P along with aggressive cost objectives, capacity planning, attainment of production schedules, productivity and efficiency improvements, and the development and management of annual budgets and financial performance.
Effectively and consistently lead the execution of operational strategies while prioritizing and meeting the day to day business demands in a matrixed team environment.
Establish operational management systems to effectively monitor overall plant performance as it relates to the master production schedule, safety, quality control, continuous improvement activities, customer satisfaction levels, corrective actions, maintenance, inventory level, production/purchase variances, and product service levels.
Develop, implement and maintain manufacturing operating procedures and assist in supporting the maintenance of product master device records
Proactively determine overall manufacturing support including workforce planning and equipment planning to meet production schedules
Provide overall inspirational leadership to the matrix team encouraging continuous improvement, continuous professional development and overall team collaboration
Partner with the Quality Assurance Department to assure compliance with regulatory agencies
Partner with the Product Support Department to revise product/equipment releases to manufacturing and assist in the smooth manufacturing transfer of new/revised product or equipment
Proactively working with the Senior Director in the planning and approval of major equipment purchases
Coordinate manufacturing related programs to establish and maintain GMP and ISO 13485 certification
Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Complies with, and responsible for enforcing, all local and corporate BD safety regulations policies/procedures.
Complies with all corporate and local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles. Ensures compliance through appropriate communication, training and education of sound Quality Assurance principles. Responsible for the activities and programs as defined for this position in the Quality Systems Manual.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or Business is required. Advanced technical (MS) and/or business management degree (MBA) is preferred.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years progressive experience in management and supervision within the Medical Diagnostics or Related Industry
Broad knowledge of high performing manufacturing, regulatory requirements, process validation concepts and techniques, product knowledge, as well as plant and business finance is required
Experience in the Medical Diagnostics Industry and/or Media is preferred
Knowledge and experience with the BD Quality system is preferred
Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, BD values, ability to seek input from others, and anticipating and meeting customer needs
Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership including effectively leading matrixed teams to meet business goals
