Job Description SummaryThe BD Medical – Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Design and Development (D&D) team is seeking a highly talented and passionate individual to help the team identify innovative solutions to address current and future health care needs. # Job Description The BD Medical – Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Design and Development (D&D) team is seeking a highly talented and passionate individual to help the team identify innovative solutions to address current and future health care needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting design and development activities for new products and improving upon existing product lines.This candidate will bring experience in leveraging finite element tools to drive efficient engineering design and testing. Accountabilities + Work within project teams to develop strategies for implementing finite element tools in new product development and product engineering. + Act as a finite element subject matter expert throughout the R&D organization to promote best practices. + Provide solid technical skill and engineering support for design and development activities for new and existing products. + Understand customer needs (through competitive analysis and prototype evaluation) and translation into engineering requirements and specifications. + Engineer robust products through strong understanding and application of engineering fundamentals. + Participate in the planning and execution of technical project work including engineering studies, DOE execution and design verification. Write detailed technical reports documenting experimental and verification testing. + Resolve technical problems. Identify or create solutions for technical problems using systematic problem-solving and statistical methodologies. + Contribute to a culture of innovation by proactively generating novel concepts for new products and enhancements to current product performance. + Ensure compliance with quality policies, procedures and practices as well as with all local, state, federal and safety regulations, policies and procedures. + Design and develop high-precision plastic injection molded components for high-volume production. Apply DFSS, DFA, DFR and other fundamental engineering practices. + Work with Clinicians to review product performance. Gain feedback and implement changes based on clinician feedback. + The incumbent will work closely with fellow R&D engineers, Customers, Marketing, Sales and Manufacturing regarding New Product Development. The position requires a team-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills. + Experienced in managing projects with tight timelines and budgets in highly matrix organization. Self-driven and always look for more efficient and effective ways of achieving results. EXPERIENCE M.S.: 3+ years of experience in technical area (finite element tools) Ph.D.: 2+ years of experience in technical area (finite element tools) SKILLS + Sound knowledge of engineering first principles. + Strong technical judgment and technical leadership skills. + Strong project management, prioritizing and multi-tasking skills to work within tight deadlines. + Experience implementing Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies. + Proficient in solid modeling (SolidWorks). + Ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams. + Experience in directing associates and leading small cross-functional groups is required. + Strong experience developing Finite Element (FE) tools to + Disciplined phase-gate product development processes & project planning. + Proficiency with fixture design including basic machining considerations and developing test methods. + Understanding of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA). + Knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) practices, and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies. + Product development considerations for tightly controlled, high-volume manufacturing process. + Strong creative, analytical and problem solving skills required. + Good written & verbal communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to utilize linear/non-linear statistics and DOE methodologies (Minitab).
