Job Description SummaryGeneral Summary

The Operations Manager provides management oversight for all activities in the distribution center. The Operations Manager serves as an interface and coordinator between warehouse operations teams and the DC senior leadership. The Operations Manager is accountable for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the facility and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include: staffing, associate recruiting and training, warehouse operation, maintenance of the facility and equipment, safety, security, housekeeping, sanitation programs, building & grounds maintenance, purchasing, communication, billing/invoicing and productivity monitoring. Operations

  • Develop and direct programs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of the facility.

  • Develop a forward knowledge of work volumes to ensure proper staffing and scheduling in accordance with customer requirements.

  • Provide direction in the development and maintenance of necessary warehouse management systems.

  • Responsible for following good documentation practices (GDP), SOP’s and work instructions. Space Management

  • Evaluate space utilization and make recommendations and implement ways to increase capacity as needed by changing business volume. Labor Management

  • Develop and maintain a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training, and professional development.

  • Uses LMS data to monitor and enhance productivity to meet established goals and requirements.

  • Provide a work environment that promotes open communication and focuses on BD’s values of Quality, Integrity and Service.

  • Evaluates employee performance, prepares performance appraisals, prepares and maintains specified work records and reports.

  • Ensures departmental procedures, SOP’s and work instructions are updated and training provided to associates as required. Ensure all associates follow C2C training guidelines.

Hiring

  • Ensure that all new hires are properly introduced to their respective job description/ analysis, wage and benefit package.

Equipment

  • Review procedures and make recommendations to ensure the efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment.
Safety and Security
  • Assure compliance with appropriate government regulations.

  • Develop, implement, and direct programs to ensure the safety of all associates, equipment and property.

  • Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse and conduct all activities in a manner that promotes a safe work environment.

  • All injuries, accidents, unsafe acts, hazards or conditions must be reported immediately.

  • Report any suspicious persons or activity.

Follow all procedures for battery changing.

Sanitation and Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean and professional image. Recognize BD’s commitment to quality work.

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the facility, follow all guidelines as outlined.

  • Require all associates to maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area at all times.

Create and manage programs to ensure that facility and grounds meet a standard of excellent in housekeeping.

Building & Grounds Maintenance

Expedite all repairs necessary to the building and grounds.

Communication

  • Develop and implement on-going communications programs with the Management Team, office, and warehouse personnel.

Actively participate in customer quality programs and process improvement project teams.

Cross-Training

  • Become knowledgeable with the responsibilities of all warehouse leadership roles to assist as required and act as back-up at times of absences and vacations.

Hazardous Waste Processing

  • This manager will be provided proper training for the processing of hazardous waste. This includes identification of the hazardous waste, proper labeling, knowledge of the locations of the hazardous accumulation waste areas, processing of shipping papers, inspection of hazardous accumulation areas and following all regulations regarding the disposal of hazardous waste.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience required.

  • Demonstrated ability to read, speak and understand English to maintain required maintenance records.

  • The ability to follow directions is extremely important.

  • Three or more years of manufacturing, distribution or related work experience.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to operate MHE and use Voice/RF scanners.

  • Must have knowledge of inventory and WMS.

  • Knowledge of GMP/SOP/Work Instructions and be able to develop techniques to ensure adherence to quality standards.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and show leadership abilities all while maintaining a team atmosphere.

  • Ability to work well with others and direct their work activities as required.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to perform/operate in a metrics-driven environment.

  • May be required to work a flexible schedule.

The associate may occasionally be required to climb. The job may require lifting over 50lbs in some areas but not all. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The position will almost always have exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment, exposure to precarious situations and potential temperature excursions. Occasionally the position will have exposure to fumes/airborne particles.
