Job Description SummaryThe R&D Manager is responsible for setting clear expectations for direct reports and establishing roles and responsibilities to manage deliverables to meet business commitments. You will lead a team of talented scientists who work on high impact, global projects critical to the success of the business unit. This individual must possess a true passion for team development, serving as technical lead while coaching/mentoring their team members. The ideal candidate will be able to develop a strong network across functions and challenge people and project teams to successfully achieve goals while influencing at all levels in the organization.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for leading the design and development of quantitative real time PCR in-vitro diagnostics assays.
2. Responsible for creating R&D project schedules with associated resource allocations and budgets.
3. Serves as Assay R&D technical lead and R&D core team member on high impact program teams. Serves as mentor and coach to subordinate leaders or staff members to meet schedules and resolve conflicts.
4. Manages a team of 5-20 scientists.
5. Assures adherence to budgets, schedules, and work plans.
6. Works on issues where analyses requires an in-depth understanding of organizational objectives.
7. Develops policies/procedures to ensure effective achievement of scientific objectives.
8. Provides tactical updates to the R&D leadership team.
9. Sets annual SMART goals for direct reports and tracks performance on a quarterly cadence.
10. Communicates and collaborates cross-functionally (Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Operations, Service and Quality) to achieve program goals.
11. Reviews project progress with the Director of R&D.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a strong track record of product development with direct experience designing and developing multiplex quantitative real time PCR assays. Must possess hands-on experience with PCR assay development and optimization. Must possess superior critical thinking and problem solving skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Must have experience building, managing, mentoring, and developing teams. Experience in innovation, design, and development of quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR assays is preferred.

Education and Experience:

Requires a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline (molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology or virology) or equivalent.

+

B.S. in a scientific discipline (molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or virology), plus a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a research and development environment specializing in developing In Vitro Diagnostic products in a regulatory environment combined to a relevant experience in team management.

A minimum of 3+ years of management experience.

+

A minimum of 3+years of quantitative PCR product development experience.

+

Excellent quantitative skills and demonstrated application of complex experimental (e.g. DOE) and statistical methods

Experience in a regulated industry required, FDA preferred.
